70 minutes of the great guitarist Steve Hillage surfing the "Golden Vibe" in 1973!
Nine previously unreleased tracks from Hillage's recordings during an Echo guitar jam session sit alongside 5 tracks from the same session taken from the Searching For The Spark box set
The recordings are part of a series of archived tapes Hillage retrieved from the camp
This volume was published with 'Wata Trip! 1973'. It was recorded when Hillage was living with Miquette Giraudy at the Gong Community House in Sens, France, as the band began to develop the music that would form the core of Gong's Angel's Egg.
The tape contained 3 hours and 12 minutes of engaging sonic wonders, full of glorious crackle and hum, using tape echo, fuzz and sometimes Wem imitation, with every note, guitar body thump, hum, harmonic and bit of audio reverberating to infinity and beyond. It seemed to embody a vibrant moment in Steve's life and was like an organic, fully formed, almost naturally occurring psychedelic ambient album. These select recordings represent a bubbling, rich cauldron of motifs, sounds, and themes, revealing recent forms, glittering shards, and even complete, deep elements of future songs, some of which are still years away from conception. These are the preparatory sketches and watercolors whose appreciation can only enhance the enjoyment of the completed "masterpiece," and even have a beautiful, coherent integrity unto themselves.
CD in digipak with an 8-page booklet with liner notes by Jonny Greene and photos of Hillage from the era.
Double vinyl in gatefold sleeve, with liner notes by Jonny Greene and photos of Hillage from the era.
