Ten Years After, first known as The Jaybirds and later as Blues Trip, was formed in 1966 by Alvin Lee, Leo Lyons, Chick Churchill and Ric Lee. The name is said to derive from the fact that they appeared on the scene a decade after Elvis Presley.
The first act to be signed to the Chrysalis agency, the group earned a fearsome reputation for their live performances, with their leader Alvin Lee being called "the fastest guitar in the West."
Their debut album, Ten Years After, was released in October 1967. The year the album came of age, the group produced a fine collection of cover songs - such as Willie Dixon's "Spoonful" and Al Kooper's "I Can't Keep From Crying Sometimes" - and original compositions.
Produced by Mike Vernon and Gus Dudgeon at Decca's West Hampstead Studios, it was one of the surest blues-rock debuts of the '60s. This reissue is a faithful recreation of the 1967 British stereo release from Deram Records.
