Under the title "Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision", Experience Hendrix presents a new deluxe box set consisting of three CDs and a Blu-ray with songs that were recorded shortly before the exceptional guitarist's death. There are 39 tracks (38 of them previously unreleased) from the period between June and August 1970, which were recorded by the newly formed Experience (Billy Cox on bass, Mitch Mitchell on drums) at Electric Lady Studios.
The set also includes 20 new 5.1 surround mixes of the complete album "First Rays Of The New Rising Sun" as well as the three bonus tracks "Valleys Of Neptune", "Pali Gap" and "Lover Man".
The Blu-ray includes the critically acclaimed documentary "Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision", which traces the history of the legendary recording studio. It was created from the ruins of a bankrupt nightclub in Manhattan and was built exactly according to Jimi's vision. The film was directed by John Dermott and produced by Janie Hendrix and George Scott. The documentary features exclusive interviews with Steve Winwood (who was present at the first recording session in the new studio), Billy Cox, the Experience's bassist, and members of the original Electric Lady staff who helped make Jimi's studio dream a reality.
The documentary shows exciting and previously unseen footage, and sound engineer Eddie Kramer provides insights into the studio work on songs such as "Freedom", "Angel" and "Dolly Dagger". An extensive booklet with unpublished pictures, handwritten song drafts by Jimi and highly interesting liner notes rounds off the package.
