Humble Pie's critically acclaimed second album was on the verge of making the band superstars when their record company suddenly collapsed and withdrew the LP from UK record stores just four months after its release, while it was not released in the US.

"Town And Country" appeared in the UK faster than it disappeared and was released in November 1969, barely three months after the debut album "As Safe As Yesterday Is". Immediate Records announced they would buck the trend and release the album early to capitalize on the Top 30 success of the debut LP, the No. 4 hit single "Natural Born Bugie" and the extensive press generated by music journalists intrigued by the new "supergroup" consisting of former Small Faces frontman Steve Marriott, Peter Frampton of The Herd, drummer Jerry Shirley and ex-Spooky Tooth bassist Greg Ridley.
