There has never been another band like The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. They didn't just play gigs - they made every venue their stomping ground, telling stories, cracking jokes and then shaking the place up. Scotland has produced its share of music legends, but SAHB remains something even rarer: a band whose legend was born on stage night after night, with sweat, confidence and steely precision.

"Good Evening Boys & Girls" is the most comprehensive attempt yet to capture this flash. Featuring 16 previously unreleased live performances, this 21-CD set traces the group's history from the Marquee in 1973 to the band's final performance with its original line-up. It's a tour of ballrooms, town halls, theaters and festivals - London, Newcastle, Glasgow, New York, Berlin, Reading - and the famous Glasgow Apollo Christmas Show of 1975, long talked about in fan circles and now finally unearthed.

Much of it comes straight from the horse's mouth: soundboard and radio recordings carefully remastered by Pete Reynolds (Mott The Hoople, Fleetwood Mac, Wishbone Ash) to preserve their power and atmosphere. You hear the band as the crew and the audience heard them - raw, elastic, unpredictable and completely themselves. This is SAHB without embellishment, and that's exactly how it should be.

The box set also looks at the story behind the sound. A 144-page hardcover book tells the story with unpublished and rare photos by Ian Dickson, Barry Plummer, Janet Macoska, Steve Emberton, Dick Barnatt, Michael Putland, Kevin Cummins and others, accompanied by new notes by longtime Harvey historian Martin Kielty. Much of the memorabilia - posters, IDs, snippets, treasures - comes from Ted McKenna's private archive and the remarkable collection of Martin Davies, offering an insight into the working life of a band that lived as hard as they played.

A replica of the Glasgow Apollo program and a signed photo of Zal Cleminson and Chris Glen complete the set - fitting as the box was created in close collaboration with Zal Cleminson, Chris Glen and sound architect Dave Batchelor, as well as the estates of Alex, Ted and Hugh McKenna. For longtime fans, "Good Evening Boys & Girls" is an opportunity to return to the halls where SAHB became SAHB.
