"Clear Spot" opens strongly and never lets up. And like a good drama, it even climaxes close to the end with the almost visceral "Big Eyed Beans From Venus." This song stands easily next to Beefheart's best material. Its churning guitar, smacking rhythm and wide-eyed vocal spite evoke earlier Beefheart more than anything else he released in 1972. The remainder of the album contains a vast array of unforgettable stampeding rhythms and an almost unsettlingly poignant Beefheart ballad. Give it a listen.
